Where it started: a student club in Lombok
In 2018, still a student in Mataram, I became the first Google Developer Student Club lead in West Nusa Tenggara. Then came a disaster app award, a hackathon and years of meetups.
In 2018 I was a student at Universitas Bumigora in Mataram, on Lombok. That year Google chose me as the first Developer Student Club lead in West Nusa Tenggara, the province Lombok is part of. I was selected directly by the programme manager.
A Developer Student Club lead runs a developer community for students at their campus, with support from Google. I held the role from February 2018 to August 2019. Three things from that time are worth writing down.

Tanggap Bencana
Lombok was hit by a series of large earthquakes in July and August 2018. Tanggap Bencana came out of that. It is an offline-first app: a volunteer walks into a shelter, records how many families are there and what they are short of, and the phone syncs when it next finds a signal. I was one of its founders. There is more about how it works on the work page.
I submitted it to Google’s Disaster Resilience Challenge. On 7 December 2018 it took first place at the Google for Indonesia Developer Showcase.

The first hackathon in West Nusa Tenggara
With the club team I organised Bumigora Hackathon, the first hackathon held in the province. It ran for two days, 12 and 13 January 2019, at Hotel Santika Mataram, under the line “make a better future with code”.

Lombok Dev
Alongside the club, I got involved in Lombok Dev, the developer community in Mataram that runs meetups in local cafés and on campuses. I have given talks there, sat on a panel, and organised a meetup:
| Event | Date | What I did |
|---|---|---|
| Meetup #6 | February 2019 | Talk: Getting started with Docker |
| Meetup #7 | July 2019 | Talk: Microservice dengan gRPC + Protobuf |
| Meetup #8 | July 2019 | Talk: Envoy Proxy |
| Meetup #11 | October 2023 | Discussion panel on the software industry |
| Meetup #13 | December 2025 | Organiser |
The full list is on the Lombok Dev events page.
Looking back
The 2019 talks were about containers, gRPC and a service proxy: the plumbing between services. That is still close to the centre of the work I do now.
I am still part of Lombok Dev. The most recent meetup I organised was in December 2025.
